Why
should I choose Yoga H'om?
At
Yoga H'om we have friendly, qualified, experienced teachers who will help you
have an enjoyable yoga experience.
Our variety of classes offers something for everyone including Ashtanga
Yoga, Hatha Yoga , Gentle Yoga, Prenatal Yoga for students of all levels. We provide a clean, light and airy
space for practice with hardwood floors, temperatures that are comfortable (about 75 degrees) and windows that open. Our students are helpful, friendly and encouraging
to each other.
Are
there different types of yoga?
Yoga
classes vary greatly depending on the style and the teacher. Some styles of Hatha Yoga may be very
soft and gentle with slow easy movements that open the body in a subtle
manner. Other styles of yoga, such
as Ashtanga Yoga and Vigorous flow incorporate vigorous "power" moves which strengthen
and generate heat in the body to detoxify and loosen tight muscles. Most styles of yoga encourage an
awareness of the breath to connect the mind with the body.
What
should I expect while taking a yoga class?
At
Yoga H'om a yoga class will consist of a physical practice of traditional hatha
yoga postures (asanas) that help to align, strengthen, tone and open the
body. Awareness of the breath is
emphasized to develop greater focus of the mind. Our classes always conclude with a deep relaxation
(savasana).
Can
anyone do yoga?
Yes
- anyone can do yoga. A beginning yoga student may find it best to take
classes for beginners (basic hatha yoga) where they can comfortably learn the
postures (asanas) and learn to coordinate breath with movement. Yoga students should discuss any
physical concerns with the teacher before taking a class. Our qualified yoga teachers at Yoga
H'om will offer modifications to suit a student's needs. Look for yoga classes on our schedule
that are appropriate for your fitness level.
What
should I wear?
Comfortable
clothing free of zippers, snaps and other hardware. Clothing that moves with your body is best. Try to avoid oversized T-shirts as they
tend to get in the way.
What
should I bring to yoga class?
A
yoga mat (if you have one) and an open mind. Our studio is equipped with mats and props for your use.
Should
I eat before class?
It
is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Eating a heavy meal should be avoided for 3 hours before
class. A light snack an hour
before you practice is OK.
Drinking water before and after class is encouraged. Please - if you smoke - avoid smoking
an hour before class.
